   Recommendation:

Dr. Samniëng Charumilinda, M.B., director and medical officer of the Railway Hospital at Tungsong, notwithstanding several interrogations by the Japanese occupation forces, and at great risk to himself, supplied Netherlands prisoners of war at Tungsong with medicines, money and newsreports.
He was instrumental in preparing an escape-attempt which however, owing to the capitulation of Japan, was not executed. Dr. Samni&eum;ng Charumilinda acquired great merit and is remembered gratefully by our former P.O.W.

   Recommendation:

At great risk maintained an underground news service mainly for the benefit of the allied prisoners of war at the Kanchanaburi airfield camp. As a consequence of these activities Dr. Matheo was arrested by the Kempeitai and after much torture sentenced to death. The excution of this sentence could only be avoided by the effective intervention of the Siamese authorities which brought about his ultimate release. Many Netherlands officers think of Dr. Matheo with deep gratitude.

Established the first contacts with the prisoners of war already before the appearance of Nai Boon Phong. He frequently acted as agent for Mr. Hempson in carrying letter, money and medicines to the prisoners of war at Kanchanaburi. Nai Olarn ran many risks, the more so as at the time he was in Thai government service.

   Recommendation:

Nang Maria Sae de Cruze acquired great merit in organizing and sustaining help to a group of about 300 Netherlands prisoners of war in Haadyai.
With the assistance of her sons Nai Phun and Nai Kekleng, her daughter Prachuab and members of the Catholic mission she was able at great risk to herself to supply said P.O.W. regularly with food, medicines, clothing and money. With her son Nai Phun she went out daily moreover to receive news from abroad by wireless which was transmitted by her to the P.O.W., whose morale was thereby greatly strengthened.
Thanks to her undaunted activities and thos of her collaborators, the Netherlands prisoners of war in Haadyai were not too bad off.

   Recommendation:

As supplier of camp cantines Nai Boon Phong made use of the rare opportunity he had to come into contact with the various P.O.W. camps, to transmit the wished expressed by the camp commanders to the aid rendering organizations of Messrs Heath and Hempson and of Mr. Tanner. He furthermore rendered extensive assistance on his own initiative. He no doubt was a key link between the camps and these aid organizations. It is thanks to him that substantial quantities of goods and money could reach the P.O.W.'s among whom were many Netherlanders. Nai Boon Phong took very great risks indeed in fulfilling his voluntary assumed humanitarian task.

   Recommendation:

His Excellency General Harn Songgram virtually saved the lifes of four Netherlands subjects wha as fugitive prisoners of war from a Japanese P.O.W.-camp in Indo China crossed the Thai border. They were granted refuge in the Thai garrisons of Khorat of which General Harn Songgram was the commanding officer.
Knowing that they were escaped prisoners of war and realizing that extradition would spell an almost certain death, His Excellency at obvious risks to himself so well concealed their presence in his garrison that they remained undetected and returned home safely at the end of the war.

His activities were of a character similar to those of Nai Boon Phong. He too acted for the two aforesaid organisations and greatly contributed to the welfare of many Netherlands prisoners of war. Thanks to the courage of Nai Lee Soon, activities could be continued at the time when Nai Boon Phong had aroused the suspicions of the Japanese and therefore was hampered in his movements.
