Born in Penrith, Cumberland (England), on 30 April, 1880. He died on 25 August, 1960.
Medical assistanstship in Bury, Lancashire, senior housephysician at the Royal Free Hospital, London, medical officer at the Walthamstow Public Dispensary, moved to New Zealand in 1907, honorary physician (1912-1925), honorart cardiologist (1925-1939) and consulting cardiologist (1939-1960) to the Wellington Hospital.
Served in the 1st New Zealand Expeditionary Force in Egypt (1915-1916), No. 1 New Zealand General Hospital at Brockenhurst, Hampshire (1917-1918), assistant director of medical services, Central Military District, New Zealand (1929-1934), director of medical services of the Army and principal medical officer of the Royal New Zealand Air Force (1934-1939), director-general of Medical Services of the the Army and Air Force (1939-1947).
