Known awards: BK

Bronzen Kruis
Bronze Cross
Royal Decree no. 2 of 8 December, 1945

Towards dusk on 18 April 1945 the force encountered a road block which was strongly defended by the enemy with bazookas and machine guns. Lance Sergeant Barber with his self-propelled gun led the attack engaging the enemy with machine gun fire.. The return fir was intense. When Lance Sergeant Barnber’s self-propelled gun was within 200 yards of the road block his machine gun jammed. Without hesitation he climbed out of his fighting compartment into the open, cleared the gun, and from this expose position continued to engage the enemy and to direct the small arms fire of his detachment. His courage and initiative drew the fire of the enemy away from the balance of his troops, enabling them to outflank the position and put the enemy to flight. Five prisoners were captured from whom valuable information was obtained.
Lance Sergeant Barber’s initiative and courageous action served as an inspiration to all ranks and played no small a part in the eventual success of the whole operation.

They performed their duties cheerfully and well due primarily to the inspiring leadership of Sergeant Barradell and his sound understanding of man management. The great pride he had in his command was evidenced by his own irreproachable turnout and the soldierly bearing of his subordinates. Sergeant Barradell rendered invaluable service to this Headquarters during operations in enabling it to function without concern for its defence and a large part of its domestic administration. His services merit high praise and commendation.

Beaver, Peter

Known awards: BK

Bronzen Kruis
Bronze Cross
Royal Decree no. 2 of 8 December, 1945
Lance-Bombardier (B8068), 1st Canadian Corps, 3rd Canadian Infantry Division, 4th Canadian Light Anti Aircraft Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery
   Recommendation:

On the morning of 16 November 1944 at about 0950 hours, Lance Bombardier Peter BEAVER was in command of a Bofors Gun of “D” Troop 69 Light Anti Aircraft Battery RCA, deployed in the defence of the vitally important NIJMEGEN Bridge. An enemy air attack developed and a bomb landed about fifty feet from the gun, wounding five members of the crew, two seriously. Lance Bombardier BEAVER, himself unwounded though badly shaken, at once brought the Bren gun to bear on the enemy plane, causing it to take evasive action and drop its second bomb harmlessly. He then at once set about applying first aid to four of the five wounded; saw that all wounded were evacuated to the nearest Medical Officer and generally took charge of the gun site. By his presence of mind and quick actions Lance Bombardier Peter BEAVER undoubtedly saved the wounded much discomfort and limited the ill effects of the wounds. He then kept his un n action with the remaining three members of the gun crew.
